About The David Kropfelder Melanoma Foundation
Dave Kropfelder, Mt. St. Joe class of 1967, continues to be remembered by his classmates and friends after succumbing to melanoma in 2003 following a long and courageous battle.
As a standout athlete in soccer, baseball and basketball at Mt St. Joe, he is in the school's Hall of Fame, along with his dad, Nicholas Kropfelder. Dave continued his athletic career at Mt St Mary's College and played in the Milwaukee Brewer's minor league system. Dave's second career in athletics spanned thirty years as an outstanding basketball official in the MIAA and various college conferences, including the Big East and the ACC. Dave also returned to his alma mater, Mt. St. Joe, as Director of Development. Shortly after Dave's death, a group of friends and family formed the David Kropfelder Melanoma Foundation to support education and research efforts aimed at preventing melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. To date, the Kropfelder Foundation has contributed over $ 35,000 to the Johns Hopkins David Kropfelder Melanoma Research and Education Fund.
